“Run Forrest run” an iconic drama-filled comedy directed by Robert Zemeckis. Forrest Gump is a film that looks like it will transport you back through the 1980s. With the iconic music and acting of Forrest himself played by no other than Tom Hanks. Now myself I know for certain that I was not entirely intrigued by the look of the film especially with the title Forrest Gump, but as said through the film “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get” and that is certainly shown through the film itself you never quite know what’s going to happen next.
The film itself takes us through the 20th century explained by the man himself Forrest. Forrest is a kind-hearted, easy-going man from Alabama with an IQ of 75 but is known for his ability to run and never stop “He must be the stupidest son of a bitch alive, but he sure is fast”. Forrest is reminded on the daily of his stupidy and crazy ideas. He’s a man that’s struggled with finding friends his whole life till he found Jenny “Jenny and me were like peas and carrots” jenny had troubles herself that she was dealing with but Forrest the caring kind-hearted man he is, was always there to save the day or at least try to.
Forrest Gump a man know his outstanding ability to run, run and never stop, a man going out of his way to prove everyone wrong about him and defy all odds that were put in his way. Forrest was played by the actor himself Tom Hanks. Personally think the character Forrest couldn’t have been played by anyone better than Hanks himself. Hanks did an impeccable job at displaying a slow-witted, cack-handed man in the best way possible, without making it look insanely stupid. Hanks has done some very impressive acting in films in the past but honestly, this has to be one of his best movies he has acted in so far. Really hoisting his acting career to go above and beyond.
Robert Zemeckis really used his actors to his advantage. With their impeccable acting skills with portraying their characters to the best of their abilities, to really strengthen and get his message and intentions through the film. He idolised symbols like the feather which is something so simple yet has so much meaning behind it. The feather was a symbol for life and death, the cycle of life, how everything comes to an end. Robert Zemeckis intentions were truly shown through the film from the symbols like the curious George book which represents Forrest himself and the feather that also represents Jenny. How the book keeps the feather safe closed inside it to protect it from the outside world just like Forrest tried to do with Jenny. Zemeckis also used the dialogue to help really get across what he wants us, viewers to see and understand “You cheated me I had a destiny I was supposed to die in the field with honour, that was my destiny” the message of destiny, whether it’s real or not “I don’t know if we each have a destiny or if we’re all just floating around accidentally on a breeze” or if we create it ourselves. Zemeckis really made this a heart-touching moment for all of us to make us all think deep and take a good look inside of us and whether we have our own destiny and where we are heading with it.
“you ain’t nothing about a hound dog” such an old American throwback, Zemeckis utilised his soundtrack to be based around that era of time. Each song he used suited that scene to a T, really supporting what was going on and helping us viewers get a feel and mood of the atmosphere. The soundtrack really stands out in the film each song has a lot of meaning and emotion behind and matching it to how the characters were feeling in that moment of time. Making that scene more sentimental and making us viewers feel and sometimes relate to the characters more.
The iconic drama-filled, romantic, comedy, directed by Robert Zemeckis was a film like no other. From the combination of the superior acting skills by Hanks himself. To the well thought out intention of the film with the message of destiny behind it, the whole film just worked together like “peas and carrots”. Zemeckis really created a heartwarming masterpiece with this film, creating a personal effect on everyone who views it.
